How Do You Spell Toblerone
How do YOU pronounce Toblerone in Switzerland?
Recently, my close friend, got into an argument over how to correctly pronounce the name of the Swiss chocolate bar, Toblerone. She concluded that you pronounced it like tow·blr·own. Her friend argued that he has been to Switzerland, and they pronounce it tow·blr·one (the ending being pronounced like one). So what is the real pronunciation?

We pronounce it To-ble-ro-ne. Letters "o" pronounced as in "of", "e" as in "end". Source: I'm Swiss (from the swiss german speaking part)

Hey from the "french" part of the country, I pronounce it the same way, except for the 2 e While the 2nd is silent, the first one sounds like oeuf (egg in french. I haven't found any word in english who has this sound ')

True. Can confirm (am swiss too) But as i heared it was meant to be like: tobler one (one like in english) because it was toblers (the name of the creator) first creation. And he wanted to do it in english so it would be more international. But the swiss people were not so good at english and called it toblerone as you described it. Funny i think

Da gibt es einen alten Witz wegen Aussprache: Es gab ja die Schokoladenfabrikanten Suchard, Callier und Tobler. Bei einer Tagung waren alle 3 zusammen und der deutsche Journalist fragte Tobler wer von den anderen zwei ist Callier (er sprach es aus GEILER) ? Tobler sagte, Suchard.

Wouldn't it be more like the "o" in "toe"?

Well, I can assure you that we pronounce it as Toblerone instead of Toblerone. But you're right. If you pronounce it as Toblerone you should burn in hell.

The English Wikipedia article has the German pronunciation. The German pronunciation is correct (rather than other Swiss languages) as it's originally a product from Bern, created by Swiss German speakers.

It is a Torrone (Almonds) from Tobler (Chocolate).
level 2
This! The fact that it comes from torrone convinced me that we should indeed pronounce the final e to pronounce it "the correct way", and possibly thrill the r as well. Obviously, it doesn't work this way in French.

Haven't eaten it in a long time, but I always felt it's more like a "touristy" thing that is bought because of it's special shape, not because the quality of the chocholate is espüecially good.
level 2
Swiss here, last i tried it, i came to the conclusion that it's of relative cheap quality (i.e. lots of sugar in stead of cacao) and therefore tourist trap chocolate. Not sure about how it was in the 90ies... But there are definately better chocolates out there.
level 2
I believe it is the same. Maybe you ate it at a different temperature. It matters quite a lot. Or had it in a different size.
Or you just had more chocolate since - it's entirely possible that you prefer a faster-melting chocolate. Many do.
level 2
Yes. I remember as a child that Toblerone was a lot less sugary and sweet and had a richer chocolate taste than today's Toblerone.

"-one" like 1, the number? Just no.
Depending on where in Switzerland you're asking, you can get:
Tow blur own (French-ish)
or
Toe blur oh nay - spelling thanks to the other user - (German-ish, and Italian-ish if you give it your average Italian caricature emphasis)
